So while the southern portions of the "3rd Worst Neighborhood" (South Wedge) are pretty decent, head to the northern portions which are part of a failed revitalization/gentrification plan and your level of safety drops like a rock. And while it's called "3rd Worst" on the map, would it be any different to call it 5th Best? It's just the connotation associated with worst/best... someone always has to be the worst, not everyone can be the best.

Unfortunately, the Rochester D&C hasn't updated its Homicide Map for 2008/2009, but they still give a decent idea of where not to live. Democrat and Chronicle | 2007 Rochester homicides

Here's one more resource, looks to only have information from 2009: Rochester Crime Map - Showing Crime in Rochester, NY - Crime Statistics - Crime Alerts - Crime Stops Here
Nice links! I wonder how many of these are drug/gang related. Most of the murders seem to be on the north side. I ask if these are drug/gang related because it is possible for someone to get murdered in a good neighborhood. Homicides do happen in the suburbs, just look at the Garcia trial.

when they run stories on the murders most seem to be either drug/gang related or domestic issues..... The majority of the time random people aren't getting picked off.

I have found a couple possible locations that are slightly north of this area and I was wondering what the neighborhoods were like.

That is a very bad map that generalizes way to much. The map I posted below is much better, though still not perfect.

With the definite exception of Gates being labeled "fairly dangerous"..I agree with 585WNY'S map and thing it is fairly accurate.

MUCH better. The only thing I would change on the map would be the streets that connect From Merchants rd to Culver. But ONLY east of Culver. IE, Grand, Hazelwood Terrace, Queens, etc. I live over in that area, and I can vouch that it is safe. We walk Merchants once in awhile at night to go bowling, it is a nice street. The streets north of Merchants going into Irondequoit are also nice.

I would also move the red area in Homestead heights a little east. I don't know a good dividing line, but much not much further west of Sovias bakery.
