I am in the process of moving to Rochester and am considering a couple apartments in Southwedge. I was hoping that I could get some insight into the locations:
1) Buckhard Pl off of South Ave
2)Walton St near Alexander St.

Thanks!

Please, surely someone has an opinion about these two areas. Thanks!

I honestly never go to that part of town... except Highland Park every once in a BLUE MOON...or the Hospital... here is some info if you are interested in learning about that area though...

Walton street is too close to "little somolia" , a housing project on Mt. Hope ave. They are in the process of getting rid of the tenants of that project to knock it down though but for the time being, the other place is in a nicer area.

I lived in the wedge for 4 years and every year it has gone down hill. I moved out when all the people in my apartment building car were broken into and bums where sitting on our front stairs. Gregory Street to where mt hope and Clinton meet are pretty tough areas. I would say near Highland Park are not bad areas. A couple years back near the lux they had about 20 people mugged and held at knifepoint. The incidence happened over a 2 week period. Their area where you are talking usually has about 2 murders a year in the neighborhood.

The area has been going uphill for a long time now. Not downhill. Crime has gone way down in that area and is in the process of gentrifying. People get mugged in every neighborhood. I don't know if you remember what that area was like 10-15 years ago, but it was much much worse.
There has not been a killing there in a couple of years. The last murders there in 2006 were from a isolated domestic incident, not some random street killing.
Your apartment building must be an exception because I have not heard anybody complain about homeless hanging out on stoops. The only people I know that have had cars broken into are people that leave stuff in plain view, and that can happen anywhere.

Burkhard Place. I have owned a rental property on nearby Cayuga for 5 years now and my tenants have enjoyed the area very much. We have had no problems there.

Garmin - were you referring to the couple shot to death in their home on Hamilton Street in 2006 (the girl's name was Sarah)? If so, I have been curious what that was all about? Do you know something?
