This is a "go big or go home" building. Providence isn't a go big or go home city. It clings to its splendid history and comfortable size. And, apparently wants to stay that way. This project will either go away or be so diminished, as be unrecognizable from the bold proposal on the table.

Is Fane threatening us with this monstrosity to get the other building?
Coal plant!
I simply think it would be wrong for Providence. It would loom over the park and the skyline. It is even more out of scale than the predecessor design.
I think Fane is smart to promise to use only union labor in building his project. They're no-money-down cheerleaders ready to support any idea, good or bad, at a moment's notice, for the right price. How many of these guys live in Providence? They don't care if it transforms Providence for good or bad.
it's Providence ... nothing will ever happen . This city want's to cling to it's past, never move into the 21st century. it's a wonder why anyone would even consider building anything here. Providence, your time has passed. To bad. The city has potential. Too bad Rhode Islanders have no vision.

"How many of these guys live in Providence?" speaks volumes for the uphill battle Fain will have. The architects are even foreigners - from Toronto.
This is NOT a case of "we don't want to build anything here". It's a case of "we sure don't want to build that hideous looking thing". A shorter version of his original design would be OK.
