I went to the doctor today for my annual check-up and I was the only patient there. The doctor said most of their patients have canceled their appointments because of this pandemic.

I think it depends what kind of doctor. Obs are not going to turn you away.
I went to see my orthopedist this week in Manhattan and while I was there for a couple of hours, I didn't see any other patients. I am so glad that I went and got it out of the way, just in case the city was quarantined.

You do know, for now at least, you can call in, teleconference, face time, Skype, etc. to determine whether or not you really need to be in the doctor’s office, or they can call a prescription in until this this virus garbage runs its course.

Trump announced it in his press conference yesterday, and the news media is promoting it.

My spring allergies are kicking in and my horses have started their spring shedding - that - means - coughing - sneezing - hacking - horse - hair - up - my - nose.

Wouldn’t that start a riot with the “chicken little the sky is falling” people, if I had to go to the doctor’s office for something - no fever, no aches, but d—-, coughing and sneezing HAS to mean that virus ——

People need to stop panicking and continue on with plain old caution.

To reiterate, if you need the doctor’s services, call in or face time to determine if you really do need to be sitting in the waiting room ————

I work as an R.N. in a VA primary care clinic and we too are in the process of cancelling most routine doctor's appointments and converting many to telephone visits as well as we have the availability to do video connect appointments because we want our vulnerable patients to remain home which lessens their virus contraction potential which significantly goes up placing them in congested waiting rooms. We also want those less vulnerable to stay home too as they could be asymptomatic virus carriers which pose a threat to staff, and if staff starts getting sick there will be nobody to care for the sick.

In the world of healthcare much can be done especially managing chronic diseases that does not require a face to face doctor's visit. I spent the good part of yesterday arranging home blood draws for patients due to come in within the next few weeks for routine appointments that had their appointments cancelled. The results of those lab tests get faxed in the doctor for review. If something serious is found in those results that a face to face doctor visit will be made at that point, or if those lab results determine just a medication adjustment is indicated the doctor communicates that directly with the patient's pharmacy and the new med or new dose can either be mailed, delivered by the pharmacy, or picked up by the patient via a pharmacy drive through window.

In addition to arranging these home blood draws I also called in multiple referrals to visiting nurse agencies to make what we call home safety evaluations on our more fragile patients. These home care nurses, OT, PT, social workers, CNAs are such a valuable part of the healthcare delivery system that can provide much care in the field as well as are the eyes, ears, etc. that report into to the doctors often subtle condition status changes at which point appropriate interventions can be implemented. One VNA referral I made yesterday after receiving a call from a family member of a patient who just returned home from a several week stay at a rehab facility. The family member noticed an open area on the patient's backside and the visiting nurse going in today will assess the wound, formulate a treatment plan as they truly are specialists in home wound care, and he/she will report back to the doctor the ongoing status of the wound which usually heals with the home care nurse's interventions and if healing is not progressing then at that point the patient comes in for a doctor's visit.

If you feel you really need to see your doctor for a new health issue you will have the opportunity to see your doctor it is just the access of how that happens has changed. There will be a much higher level of triaging of your health issue and coordinating of your appointment than done previously because your doctor will also be evaluating potential virus patients and they don't want to put you in harms way by placing you in the same waiting room with these patients, and I am sure you have noticed most doctor's waiting rooms were not designed with isolated respiratory precaution areas.

Now is not the time to worry about the what its, instead do what you can to stay has healthy as possible which includes better self management of any chronic disease that you may have and STAY HOME to reduce your potential for contraction of all communicable diseases so that you will not need to see your doctor at this time.

Just because you may be having a problem doesn't mean that everyone else is.

I had a 12:30 eye doctor appointment today. Got a phone call telling me to come in at 9:30 as he needs to see me. Post-op.
