Here is a good Web MD article that might be useful to the OP and any others:

There is something called Toppik. It consists of powdery fibers in several colors that come in a shaker which you shake over your head, and it adds fullness to the hair. It works well on mildly (or even moderately) thinning women's hair, not on completely bald spots. It washes out with water. It is not entirely cheap, but is cheaper and more effective than Rogaine.

When my hair began thinning, my hairdresser recommended Nioxin products which work well to create volume. Not cheap, but a little goes a long way and I stock up when there are sales.

Using a natural bristle brush also helps create volume.

Yes, volumizers can create the optic illussion of fuller hair. There are shampoos, conditioners, serums and hair sprays. Good stuff.

Toppic is... well a bit embarrassing when you find it all over your pillow. But I guess it doesn't matter for singles. Everytime you wash your hair you need to reapply it again. It's just like a powdery fiber. It could look "funny" on your hair and your ... shoulder.
I would rather stick to volumizers.
Boldify is pretty much the best, Paul Mitchell and John Frieda are good too. Biotin has good serums.

The reason the women’s Rogaine is recommended is the concern that the stronger, men’s version will cause hair growth in areas undesirable to women, like the face, i.e. a ladybeard. I had a series of illnesses & surgeries in my early 30’s that caused me to lose hair, and I just used the men’s version, I wanted as much regrowth as I could get. My hair grew back and I never got a ladybeard. I used the Kirkland (Costco) brand, same ingredients as the brand name and much cheaper.

Also, I’ve taken biotin for years and I really believe that it promotes hair health. Give it a try. Get the highest dosage you can find, the brand is irrelevant.

Have you had your thyroid checked? Hair loss is a symptom. My hair recovered nicely within about six weeks of starting Synthroid.

Apparently, the hair implant thing has advanced amazingly, if you have the money. My dentist had it done and I swear, it looks real, unlike hair transplants from previous years where you could actually see the little plugs of hair. Time for some research I would guess.

I used to have big hair so much that few times I went to hairsalon they thin it out a lot with scissors. Due to illnesses I have lost a lot of hair. Now it looks sort of normal.

My mom uses the men's version and never got the unwanted hair growth in other places.
