i would say i found my soul mate- or at least as close as one gets- in my husband, who died. i would say i've found as close as i probably will get- given different backgrounds, very different families of origin, different baggage, in the significant other. i do not have the expectations that i once did,nor perhaps the perceived needs, and feel that, at this age and stage of my life,i'm fotunate in the two men who have loved me.
are there things i wish were different? oh yeah, but i still consider myself fortunate.
My husband is the love of my life . . . definitely. Can't imagine having a more compatible companion. Health issues have impacted our relationship as far as many of the activities we used to enjoy together - no more dancing! And we so loved to dance . . . no more hiking, skiing, etc. So that has been sad and we mourn the loss of those things. But we are in tune intellectually and share the same interests in life, even if we can't pursue some of the activities we enjoy. Having a cup of coffee and simply talking (and laughing!) with one another was what drew us together and god willing, we will be able to continue those lovely, cherished moments for years ahead.
I met my life partner 16 years ago. There is no doubt in either of our minds that we are soul mates in almost every area. After 15 years of living together, we are still waiting for the honeymoon to end and hoping it never does. It's amazing. I wake up and the first thought in my mind is how wonderful life is, no matter what is going on or what health issue we are facing: life with each other is incredible.
No, but only because I don't believe in this idea of a soul mate. No matter how compatible you are with someone, it takes ongoing 'work' to keep the relationship healthy and happy.
It took me three tries, but this time my spouse is definitely a "keeper".
At my advanced age, I think about whether true love is
attainable.
I had two tries at it, but haven't decided.
How does one know?
I would say that although I did not find a soul mate in either of my husbands, I did have friends who came close to that description. I envy people whose friend and soul mate is also their husband/wife/partner.
Yes--I picked right in high school and we both grew on similar lines. But that doesn't mean only one soul mate exists for each person; when one of us passes away (hopefully, in our late 80s), we want the other to find the next soul mate to share life with.
Well I can say I have. Yeah we have our issues. She don't golf enough and I am high maintenance. We have been married 33 years and met three years prior to that. So I guess if there is any soulmate to be gotten I found her.
