A bit obscure, but i'd pick the Olds Aurora. The Saturn Astra could have been good as well. Both cars bit the dust due to the divisions being axed by GM.

I'd also add the 3000GT, Mitsubishi really needs a halo car again, and the car went 9 years without ever getting significant upgrades. A new version could be amazing.

Honorable mention, Toyota MR2 Spyder.
The Fiero had to many problems with engine fires. It was a mid engine car. And was Pontiac's first 2 seater since 1926.

Good call. Olds was starting to get interesting with that car.

The Pontiac Grand Am was on its way to rivaling today's
Nissan Altima and Hyundai Sonata before Pontiac went
out of business.

The Grand Am was replaced by the G6 a few years before Pontiac was killed. The G6 was not "almost good".

That car was actually a rebadged Opel built in Belgium, GM should bring it back as a Chevy.

Right... a friend had a '65 four carb model that was pretty great... and then they were gone!

Fiero was on my mind as i clicked the topic and its one of the best examples because its first year was really abyssmal. Kind of homely underpowered and I understand so poorly built body panels commonly flew off at highway speeds. By 87-88 it had suspension improvements a truly iconic look and adequate power.
I think what also killed it was an improved trans am GTA. Buyers got on the lot and saw that with 100 more hp for just a little more money.
