Do any of you LLs do a criminal backround check on these people?
Im not talking about landscapers/trash etc..But the ones that have keys to the building.

I was thinking of asking my new mngmt this and also asking for the maint. names so I can just do it myself when I move in there. (its only 30 bucks a person so why not eh?)

I was just thinking about this as I read a review on a person that was beaten to death and left for 2 wks in a so called lux buildng in my area.

It should be required that all landlords do criminal background checks on maintenance people who have keys to the homes of tenants. I think it's foolish not to. Any renter should ask a landlord about this when applying for a rental. "Who (besides the landlord) has keys to the unit?" We don't have maintenace people, but if we did, I'd check their background.

highly possible that the people that do the maintenance are not USA residents.
"invisible" people don't get cleared for background at all. the elephant standing in the living room.

I doubt that you can do a criminal background check on them. But you can require one and they can go down and sign for one on themselves and get it.Most ploce dept can do this but they charge for the cost.

Absolutely, yes!. Do a background check. If they don't steal or harm someone else, they can do it to you. A Pre Employment Screening Background Check may cost about $30 like you said, but you need to get the job applicants permission. So just include a consent form in the job application package. If he does not want to give his consent, then you do not want to hire him anyway. If the landlord does not hire him because of something in the background check, then the landlord must tell him what the information was and where the landlord got it. Ok, no problem. I just give the job applicant a copy of the paragraph that describes the problem, and I tell him the name of the company that sold me the background check.
