I currently use CreditLink for checking credit, and it can be done online. I believe you have to have someone come to your residence to verify you have a locking file cabinet, method for disposing of credit reports/personal info (paper shredder or fireplace), and a method for receiving credit reports (fax or computer with internet). Basically, they have to show that you can properly handle other people's personal info.
to NMSFM: Personally, I'm sorry to hear that. Over the years I had more trouble with inaccuracies on my Experian report than the other two of "the big three" combined. Had a really hard time getting things cleared up, too. If I were a landlord, I'd never be able to have faith in their reports. But I'm not ... so it makes no difference. Just throwing in my two cents, which in this day & age is worth about a plug nickel

Well, you get what you pay for, I guess LOL! I use a service that my boss pays for through the Apt Assoc. here. I did find the Experian website recently and thought it looked interesting.
They will even do everything for you, including checking employment, landlord references, etc. Not sure the cost. If you do your credit checks online, they are pretty cheap, which is what I do (credit and eviction reports). They also offer criminal checks. But, you do have to pay for a membership, too, I think. Don't know for sure, because I don't pay for it.
