Genesis 3:16 To the woman he said, "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you."
This doesn't sound very equal.
Also, interesting how biblegod gives Adam his name:
Genesis 2:26 but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground- the LORD God formed the man The Hebrew for man (adam) sounds like and may be related to the Hebrew for ground (adamah) it is also the name Adam (see Gen. 2:20)
but Adam is the one to name Eve after they sinned:
Genesis 3:20 Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living.
This is after he named the animals...(guess Eve wasn't worthy of a name til later. Wife or woman was how she was identified.)
Genesis 2:19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field.
In review, biblegod names Adam, but Eve doesn't get a name until after sin, and after Adam names the animals. And after that, Eve is ruled over by Adam.
We are all equal in the eyes of God but there has to be order or there will be chaos. So women submit to men not because they are unequal, but because there has to be order and that they have love and respect for each other and both as believers show love and obedience to the Lord.
I will not submit to man because there has to be order.
I don't have kids, though I don't foresee anything changing at that time.
My wife and I have different strengths and weaknesses. For example, we balance those in such as a way as I manage the finances, and she looks after our health and diet.
I consider us to be equals and we divide up the workload as such. She's a better cook, so she does that, and I do all the dishes. She washes the dogs, and I pick up their poop. We each do our own laundry...
I see it as an equal partnership and we don't make any major moves without agreeing on it.
I don't see how that isn't a truly equal relationship.
women are ranked about men. they have substancial privileges above males.
passed men up in the office long time ago.
they rule most homes. the question is how well have they used this power to benefit children and society. now that is a burning question. are we better off than 30 years ago.
are we more solvent. are we well better off financially, are our kids betters mannered and better citizens. are our kids more employable. are our homes more disciplined and harmonius.
However, when my husband and I disagree on an issue, he usually has the swing vote. We will discuss it, certainly. He will listen and I know that he truly respects and desires my POV. But if a decision HAS to be made on an issue, his vote will out rule mine. I am fine with that. We have never run into in marriage-threatening issues.
Just out of curiosity -- your husband has the swing vote on EVERY issue? Even issues that affect you more than him, such as your medical care? Can he overrule you, for example, on what specialists your should consult or what medications you are to take?
Life only exist with both sexes therefore both sexes are equal. The roles they may play might be different in general but that's more based on tradition or human instincts.
