In reading Genesis individuals are described who are supposedly living 800 or 900 years or more. For someone who believes in a 6,000 year old earth that would mean that Adam actually lived for about one sixth of the entire history of the world. That would be like a person being born in the year 1,000 and not dying until 1930 because Adam was supposed to have died at the age of 930. Does anyone else find that a little hard to believe? If it were true what possible explanation could there be for such a phenomenon? When forensics experts have discovered the remains of individuals who have died a very long time ago they have concluded that the average person did not live a long life and 40 or 50 would have been considered very old. There is no scientific documentation of the discovery of some superbreed of human that could live for nearly a thousand years, in fact it is generally recognized that people are living longer now than they ever have in human history. I think I have an explanation that seems reasonable. I believe that when the stories of Adam and his family were written and continuing until the time of Noah, the authors wanted to paint a heroic and colorful picture of the individuals who are supposed to have populated the world and having them live incredibly long lives would be one way to accomplish that task. Of course it's a fictional account of imaginary people but the goal was to present a dramatic and bold narrative that would capture the imaginations of the readers.
Most mythologies have the original people represented as a super breed who knew no sickness and were almost immortal. Then the gods did something to make men mortal on some trumped up charge or another. Just another origin myth that is remarkably similar to other origin myths.
The Bible tells us that God made humans to live forever and that Adam’s sin brought imperfection and death to the human family. (Genesis 2:17; 3:17-19; Romans 5:12) Those who lived before the Flood were much closer to perfection than we are today, and this was most likely a major factor in the long lives they lived. Methuselah, for instance, who lived to to be almost 1,000, was only seven generations removed from Adam.—Luke 3:37, 38.
i have had this discussion with people before. I believe it could be due ot the genetic code being so pure back in the day.
Adam and eve being made perfect, no flaws in the genetic code. then sin is introduced to them, and I think that begins the deteriation of the code.
Back then it was still so pure you could, and did have offsrping with brother and sister and cousins ect ect . But as time goes on God makes the law that close relation can no longer mate. Back then people didnt know why. Of course we know, because we get a good chance of deformities or something else if incest occurs.
As much as todays society would view all that as being sick, it was a complete different worold back then and society as it is today.
As for the Global flood, once it happened people didnt really have them super long life spans. People still lived long, but over time the span shortens, and i think this is due to genetic break down.

But you have to see that if , back then the code was still so pure in perfection, then it wouldnt matter if there was incest.. Incest wasnt even thought of at that time of adam and eve. What we view now as incest , back then was nothing more then being fruitful and multiplying. You could have offsrping with brother and sister and not have the chance of deformaties that you would see today so many years later from back then.
As time goes on, the code gets weaker and weaker as generations come and go. God, knowing all, sees that being with someone so close will be a detriment to newborns. So a law is made by god, to not have offsrping any more with close relation.
This is nothing more then just a simple way of looking at it. I dont dare ever to try to explain it and say thats how it is,but rather just to give people ideas.

Sure it was.
If Adam & Eve were the 1st humans their off-spring had to commit incest otherwise there can be no human race.
Unless God created more people out of thin air. And even after the flood when God destroyed all life except for those with Noah on the ark, incest had to be committed; there is no other way if you want to jumpstart the whole human race with only 3 couples that can produce children.
I mean incest equals in-breeding, right?
No way for a person to live that long, your phenotype would need to be completely different from that of a human to even have a chance at lasting that long. The ~100 years or so lifespan is not because of some unknown defect but rather because
if we lived as long as trees, younger generations would have to compete against the old.

well we are all "brothers and sisters" according to Jesus
well we are all "brothers and sisters" according to Jesus
But are we also all blood relations of each other?
If so, incest will completely loose its meaning.
