I just received 2 phone calls in a row from Jehovah's Witnesses. Has anyone ever heard of them calling instead of visiting? This is new to me. I politely said no thank you, but I'm still surprised to get calls now. Is this something new?
No, I have never heard of them using the phone for their ministry, but I never believed they would ever take their ministry to the internet, either..I imagine all religions want to take advantage of all that is available to try to draw people to their beliefs..
Yes, it was a way of getting some 'time' in on the ministry if the weather was bad, or if people were constantly not at home. I never did it, the same as I never did 'business territory.' You were always made to feel as though you were lacking, no matter how much time you devoted to the ministry, if you did not share in all aspects of the preaching work.
If you recieve a phonecall from one of Jehovah's Witnessess, it will most probably be that he/she is ill, or disabled or perhaps housebound and cannot go door to door....so this is the only way for them to do the work of trying to reach their fellow man with the good news of God's imminent Kingdom. PS I am not a member....but my kind and lovely sister is.
I don't think I've ever received a phone call from any religious organization other than certain groups that may be sponsored by various churches, etc. for the purpose of collecting donations of food, used furniture, and that sort of thing but never to try to convert me or preach to me. That is very unusual. I remember when I was a kid that we were constantly having Jehovah's Witnesses coming up to the door giving away those little magazines. The internet that someone mentioned doesn't surprise me at all. In fact anyone with any point of view has access to the largest audience you can imagine so it wouldn't make any sense not to utilize it.

Nothing personal, but I hope your "kind and loving sister" doesn't call me!
It is a new strategie for them to capture people ,
