I am going to ask one of the bosses at work about that tomorrow. One of the personal assistants is a JW too, so maybe I'll ask her.

Funny you should say that. Didnt Jesus say that the world would hate and reject his true followers.

"If you were part of the world, the world would be fond of what is its own. Now because you are no part of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, on this account the world hates you." -John 15:18, 19

Lets see now, the world hates Jehovah's Witnesses and why? Becasue they are no part of the world. They dont get involved in politics, celebrate pagan customs, kill others in war, they preach the good news, dont use or believe in pagan symbols and beliefs such as the cross, the trinity or hell fire. They dont strive after riches, the best schooling and the good life now, because they, unlike the faithless house of Christendom, believe in God's Kingdom, and that it will soon be here. They're kind of like the 1st century Christians. Well, not "kind of like," exactly alike. They were absolutely hated by, to quote you, by "99% of the world."

On the other hand, Christendom is largely loved by the world. And why? Because they do get involved in politcis and the killing of others in wars. Its their patrotic duty right? They're just good citizens right? They dont preach the good news as commanded by Christ. And why not, you dont want to bother your neighbor with the message of salvation right? They have soaked up all the pagan beleifs from centuries past, Such as the cross, the trinity and hell fire. The the world has no problem with that. And why not, those beliefs are of the world, the people are fond of them. Those in Christendom use the world to the full, they strive for riches, the best house, the finest schooling, the good life. That seems to be what every book put out by the leaders of Christendom is about anymore. And why not strive for it, God wants us to be fabulosely rich right? They say they believe in the return of Christ soon to come, but they really dont show it by their pursuit of wealth, they're trying to change the world by their constant involvment in politics, and they're killing of others on war.

So of course the world hates JW's, they dont ascribe to the views and ways of the world.

And of course the world is fond of Christendom and all others, because they do ascribe to the views and ways of the world.

Actually, "Jehovah" was put back into its rightful place. Everytime you see "LORD" in all capitols, it was where the divine name used to be. Removed by translators of Christendom. The divine name occurs 7,210 in the original ancient Biblical manuscripts. All the WTS did was put the name of God back in His book. The New World Tranlsation also is not the only Bible to use "Jehovah" extensively.

I see this has already attracted a few anti-JW remarks. What's the point? Must be better things to do.

Of course they call Jehovah "God", that's exactly what they call him - Jehovah God. Also, the reason they don't say "God bless you" when you sneeze, is because they don't believe it's a sign that a demon is trying to escape or get inside you. That's how the saying started centuries ago.

Regarding God's name, it's true they had to guess where to add it in the New Testiment as it was completely removed at some point by people who thought Jehovah would be angry at Christians for using his name. Despite the fact He very clearly asked us to use it. They didn't have to guess where to put the name in the translation of the Old Testiment however.

Yes, Xmas, Easter, Halloween etc all have clear pagan roots and should not be celebrated. We were told to remember his death, not to celebrate his birth. He was just a baby afterall. Jesus didn't even know everything about himself until he was baptised. That's when God revealed it to him.

Birthdays are a bit more vague. They are mentioned in the bible twice, both times involved pagans and death, so JW's felt it would be right to not celebrate birthdays.

Thanks to the people who didn't make anti-JW remarks. Faith is faith afterall.

Nathan

The tetragrammaton does not occur in a single copy of the ancient Greek manuscripts. Strange how these 'men' were able to obliterate the name from the New Testament and yet it occurs in the OT manuscripts?

Also, doesn't that give evidence that God could not protect his Word from being tampered with, which opens up a whole world of speculation on what else they may have seen fit to add or remove?

What about wedding rings?

And why cant you celebrate Thanksgiving or Independence day. God told the Jews to celebrate the release from Egypt..That was a Nationalistic holiday, was it not?

Whether or not there is clear evidence of pagan origins, we do not celebrate them because the society says they are wrong, period !! We do not go against the slaves advice by going ahead of the organization. There is very little evidence against celebrating birthdays, however since the faithful and discreet slave advise against it, we wouldnt want to go against the slave.

Yes, wedding rings may have pagan origins, I will admit that. However since the society says it is Ok, then we will continue wearing them.

Who are "slaves"? I'm confused by your post.

good post. i`m not a jw but i agree with what you`re saying about christendom. The american christian church actually thinks they are being persecuted! They have it made compared to a lot of other religions in this country and you are right..they are very wordly and unfortunately I include myself in that mix. The op was asking about jw beliefs on holidays and you can see people are already on here slamming their religion when that is not what this thread is about.
