You know I am always thinking about that. For me success is looked at in terms of growth and how closer you are to the purpose of your life. I know most do not prescribe to this ideology. And thats okay. But alas! No matter how much wealth, connections, career satisfaction, friends we have - we all must leave it all behind. For me success can not be two minutes of joy and happiness, its got to be more. Growth as a person, ascending within this existance, the bigger picture, and not just the intensity of a moment. And not just accomplishments, as good as they are, for they themselves mark position and not destiny, not the end. We grow through our experiences, but we grow towards what? And for what reason? Getting this right, and getting where I am suppose to be, in this life or the next, - enlightenment, that is success to me.
I mean, there's a lot of talk about successful people being defined as they have a nice job, nice car, and a large bank account, but do you all accept that as success?
If not those things, then what?
Okay, I'll play along.
To me, success or being successful means:
....to raise your children to become good loving people.
....to be able to earn a living doing what you love.
....to inspire others in any positive way (art, love, life, etc.)
....being a great husband/wife/parent/friend.
....being able to differentiate right from wrong and acting ONLY in a manner of rightness at all times (i.e., do the right thing).
....having a great group of friends who themselves are good people in all ways.

Seems like we all agree, it's less of the material things and accumulations but other qualitiative things that can't be measured so easily, and might go unnoticed by most.
