If a guy compliments your shoes.... (women, personality, friend, clothes)

So I was reading another thread, and it made me wonder.... if a guy compliments your shoes, how do you know if he's just admiring your shoes or if that's a subtle way of saying he likes YOU?
(I say shoes but it could also be any other clothing, hair or accessory you're wearing)
Some guys apparently do take the effort to just compliment a woman. Not myself, but a friend of mine use to compliment women for various things whether it was their shoes, hair, outfit, etc.
Just take it as a simplistic compliment to appreciate the beauty or style. I know sometimes I look at a girl and think of how nice their hair really is, or how a dress or outfit looks really nice on them. I don't tell them.. and it certainly doesn't mean I want to get in their panties either.
Unless a guy is very clearly, obviously gay, I assume he's indicating some level of interest if he compliments my shoes. (I don't assume this if he compliments something else, like my bag or my outfit. I also don't assume he's necessarily a foot fetishist.)
I never compliment a woman's shoes unless I'm picturing how they would look, waving in the air above my back. So yeah, I'd vote for the compliment being a sign of interest.
Honestly, this shouldn't be over-analyzed much unless he begins to compliment other aspects of you other than what you wear. If it's always about your clothes, then you can start to "question" his manhood or possible kinks as some others have said.
Until he starts to compliment some of your physical features or even parts of your personality, then it should just be taken as a nice compliment. I don't think I've heard any success stories where someone said "Nice shoes, wanna ****?"
Watch the eyes. He will do a "once over" look at you from head to toe.
