"Your" type doesn't like you but the type you don't like does (man, family)

I don't know if this is something I alone deal with but while speaking to other women they have this problem. Basically I prefer a certain type: skinny geeky guys. I don't like big bear types at all in fact they repulse me (yes I am being honest). Every other type is okay but I can stand these types of men. Anyway, when doing online guess what type kept responding to me and which ignored me? Yep. It's one reason I gave up on online dating. The guy I am interested in is neither type.
Most of the guys who contact me online aren't my type. It's frustrating but I thought it was normal since most men aren't my type so it follows that I have a greater chance of being contacted by one of them.
My type is guys who would survive a zombie apocalypse (probably because I would not). For some reason, these guys always seem to have inadequate mothers, so they tend to glom onto me, because I'm very maternal (grew up raising animals and caring for younger relatives - nurturing is kind of my thing).
I frequently date "against type" - but I just tend to get along well with a certain groove of guy. Amusingly, they are the kinds of guys who inevitably pick ME out. Go figure.
I don't really have a physical type. "Not morbidly obese," is kind of my only requirement.
Online dating is just like any kind of dating. Some periods of time you don't meet anyone and then other times the flood gates open (or somewhere in between).
This has been my experience too. Feast or famine.
OP, I think some people take issue with that you act so offended and incredulous that certain kinds of guys would have the nerve to contact you. I get messages from lots of guys that aren't my type and that I would never consider, but I just delete them and move on. Do you ever make the first move to write to guys you find appealing?

yeah story of my life. OP you are not alone. mine is more on the looks type. i mean who does not want a good looking guy? but, as it is i was cursed to not be wanted by good looking guys.
honestly if i stayed with my type online... i won't get a date...ever!!! ironically though. if a good looking guy message me i always doubt their sincerity. so i never answer their message.

ya i call my 'periods of time you don't meet anyone' a dry spell. lol. it actually is a mystery to me how 1 month i have a dry spell and then flood gates open and i have to meet 2 guys on same day. LOL.
I haven't done online dating in a while but the guys that approach me when I'm out are never my type. I don't consider them repulsive. I usually save that title for child molesters, murderers etc.

I have read through some of your posts and what I gather is that you are going to be bitterly alone the rest of your life.
What man in his right mind would want a woman like you?
You have to pick from among the guys who are attacted to you. There are no other kind available to you. Maybe there's a few skinny geeks in the mix, maybe not. It seems like these "bear" types seek you out online. Find out where skinny, 40+,never married, no kids geeks hang out and try your luck there.
