A while back, I read a post by a young man who wanted to get a young woman's attention and needed advice. He started out saying how pretty she was, how charming, how much he wanted to get to know her better. Then, came his question: "How do I convince her to have a FWB with me?"
What???
I would have dismissed it as an oddity, but I saw at least 3 or 4 similar posts the same day. The posters, all male, had the same question: how do I convince the woman I like to agree to a FWB/no-strings-attached arrangement? They asked with no so sense of irony, no awareness they might be asking anything unusual. I couldn't get over it.
MY question is, has the whole concept of dating and relationships become totally foreign to some younger people? Are random hookups and FWB all they know? I am really curious...
IDK how to answer your question. I'm going to assume that most of these people who make posts like that are just doing it for giggles but, if its true, then I feel bad for whoever they're with. I find it disgusting that men would even think about having an FWB just so they can f*** someone, to me that's very selfish and shallow way of thinking and is a poor reflection on society.

Anybody that has any experience in dating knows that, especially as a guy, one of the worst things you could possibly do is traditionally date a girl.
Here's why:
- while you're taking her out on dinner dates, she's banging somebody else
- looking at her as a potential girlfriend early on makes you far more emotionally invested, which will almost definitely result in you messing it up (most likely due to some level of neediness)
- there's really no point anymore (why spend money on a girl when you could just bang her, then turn it into a relationship at your whim)
There was a time when I had difficulty accepting the truth of the above statements. Once I finally did accept it, dating became far more fun.
I think even the guys who aren't looking for FWBs are still looking to get sex right away (and then see about dating). There is no more getting to know each other or spending time together before taking that step. Sometimes it sounds like even the 3rd date rule has been done away with.
This is not isolated within younger men.
ETA: see Jack's post for proof.
