That poll makes me wonder if the same percentage of people would think it ok to rip somebody off if they knew they would not get caught?
Would the same percentage feel its ok to run a red light if you knew you wouldnt get caught----how about padding the expense account before turning it in to boss if you knew he didnt care?
This gets back to doing the right thing----when you get married you pledge to be faithful to your partner. If you feel you need to run into the arms of someone else, than its time for counseling, frank family discussions, or ending the marriage.
Until than---stay true to your spouse-----it is the right thing to do.
I don't believe most polls. They are notoriously inaccurate. That being said, those people still have to look at themselves in the mirror, and look their partner in the eyes. I can't help but think a bit of, or perhaps a LOT of character, and personal self respect are lost to them. The world is a lesser place without honor, and dignity.
PA2UK makes a great point, but if these numbers really are accurate, then it just goes to prove a point I made in P&OC: our society is in a moral decline.
Maybe... or maybe we just have more widely published surveys these days - of often unknown accuracy and origin - and more people who are willing to say how they really feel vs. lying because they are afraid of consequences, either real or imagined.
Long story short, these numbers seem very high to me, but by the same token, I don't buy the notion that "years ago, nobody would do stuff like this!" either.
Not sure who keeps digging up all of these old threads, but whatever. If the numbers are true then it's a sad state of affairs. Down right depressing actually.
I wonder what percentage of those polled were lying and the percentages are actually higher.
