I just asked my husband (he registered our daughter for school since he was down here and we weren't)...and he said he took a copy of the closing documents.
I wasn't sure if things had changed though.

I *think* you need two forms of "proof" that you are living at the residence. When I registered my DD last year for KG, they required EITHER a deed or rental agreement AND a utility bill with a corresponding address.
Since this is what I do for a living, here ya' go:
You need to bring your rental agreement, and you also could bring a cover letter from your utility service company, but the rental agreement should do. If you purchase a home, remember to bring in a utility bill or the closing statement on your new home.
Thanks again! Went to the school this morning (that the Wake County website says is our base school) and the lease agreement was sufficient.
But the school says they are not our base school (based on our address). Wake County says it is. School told us to go to the school they see (on their system) as our base school.
Since you are renting, I would think that the rental agreement should be all you need. I found a rental for a client of mine last week and Olive Chapel Elementary accepted the rental agreement.
