A part of Mebane is located in Orange County so technically this is a Triangle related story. It looks like the groundbreaking for a new outlet center to be located in Mebane is set for this December 10th. This outlet will be within easy driving distance for those of you located in Orange and Durham Counties. It should also be a fairly easy drive down I-40 for those of us in Wake County and will provide an alternative to the Smithfield Outlets.

Story: Tanger to Break Ground in Mebane, North Carolina on Its Newest Upscale Outlet Shopping Attraction (http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/articles/globenewswire/179659.htm - broken link)

"The Tanger Outlet Center is located on Interstate 40/85, Exit 154 on Arrowhead Boulevard. The Tanger center lies between the major metropolitan markets of Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill and Greensboro/High Point/Winston-Salem.

The 317,000 square foot Tanger center will feature 80 upscale outlet stores including Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5th, Banana Republic Factory Store, Coach Factory, Gap Outlet, J. Crew, Michael Kors, Nike Factory Store and Tommy Hilfiger. Additional brands will be announced during the December 10th ground breaking ceremony."

looking forward to this, however i cannot find Arrowhead Blvd off exit 154. there's an Arrowhead Ln, but i cannot imagine they mean to put an entire outlet there. from what i can see and remember of that area, that would be right in a residential neighborhood.

anyone more familiar with where this will actually be located?

Mike

I wish someone would have the "vision" to re-invent our own outlet mall near the airport. That's in a prime Triangle location for bargain shoppers but it has languished for years under the radar.

Google maps shows it as Farrar Ln, but mapquest has it labeled Arrowhead Blvd.

As for the outlet on Airport Blvd, I think it is too close to Raleigh and Durham. Outlets have to be in the middle of nowhere so that you think you are getting a bargain.

From what I saw today when you you past the medical park on the four lane road with a median, it is all cleared out and the construction is currently going on. The residential area is behind (or north) of this area.

Nice win for Mebane and the areas surrounding it!

This 'outlet' will be a real 'inlet' for shoppers into Mebane!
Hopefully the roads will be designed correctly so the area will not 'clog' up with traffic!
One would hope the cars will 'flush' freely onto and off of Rt 40!
And being I have 'drained' my mind of 'flowing' analogizes I shall flip my 'stopper' and end here!

From I85/40, Go North on Mebane Oaks Rd. Take a right at the first light. The outlets will be behind the new medical facility that was just completed last year.

BTW, it's Alamance County. No tax benefits for Orange County.... (again). :-(

Sounds good to me. Re: the airport mall, I only go out that way when I'm leaving or coming home via the airport -- not in the mood to shop then!

Wasn't there talk, at one time, that the North Hills developer was going to do something similar to the outlet mall near the airport? That would be nice!
