They were actually supposed to be F/A 18 Hornets....marine flyers.
I heard them today, but by the time I got outside, they were behind the trees...so I couldn't be sure exactly what they were.
They probably were. I am not exactly a plane expert-my husband thought they were F-16's but you are probably right. They were impressive but initially I was a little scared-they were close!
We thought for a second a plane was going to crash into our apartment building today. These guys were loud and close. Anyone know what the fighter jets were doing in this area today?(thought it would be a weird place for a training mission). We are not in the normal flight path of the airport. Just wondering if there was some weekend event today where they had the jets. Thanks!
I am in Morrisville in an apartment and that scared me OMG. That was really freaky and so cool at the same time. I was out on my second floor balcony at the time.

Yeah, I saw F/A 18's fly over north Durham (Hillandale) during the 4th quarter of the Duke/Ga. Tech game, after their flyover activities were all done for the day?. Four of em, I believe.
F18's flew over the UNC Game. 3:30 Kickoff, flyover before that. I got to meet the pilots of them on Franklin Street after the game, really nice guys. They practiced the route on Friday.
We were at Cedar Fork District Park and they were LOUD as they flew over. Normal planes go over all the time and you don't really hear them..........but you couldn't ignore these. They looked really cool and they were flying pretty low (it seemed to me :-).
I saw four of them coming from the direction of RDU towards Apex one after another.
Perhaps flying back to their base?
Flying back to Beaufort where they are stationed.
