I know this will seem strange, but I wanted to throw this out to the forum to get people's thoughts. We just moved into our house about a month ago and recently we noticed our water smelling and tasting sort of funny. As crazy as it sounds, it smells and tastes like grass.

Has anybody else ever experienced anything of this nature? If it doesn't clear up soon I am going to contact the water department.

Just thought I would see what everybody had to say.

I don't know where you live, but here in Clayton, we had a same problem like your's, but with a good reason: we received a letter from Johnston County stating that they are going to use extra chemical/chloride that will be used for two weeks, which is part of their yearly "cleaning" process. We noticed it immediately and decided to purchased gallons of water until it doesn't taste or smell funny. Now it's back to normal. You should receive a letter from your water company. If not, then something's wrong and you need to contact your county or city.

We noticed a definite increased chlorine taste in the water for about two weeks. Then starting this week it tasted, well, like dirt (not that I really know what dirt tastes like, but it kind of tastes the way dirt smells, if that makes sense). I noticed this both at my apartment in NW Raleigh and at work, just outside the beltline in N Raleigh. I never received a letter about anything, but that might just be because I live in an apartment...

When I was in the area for an interview about a month ago I, too, thought the water tasted like dirt smells. Interesting?!

They add ammonia to it sometimes. I know when we lived in Cary/Apex we drank bottled water.

Even with the filter from the fridge, our water has tasted weird lately. I thought it might have been the new filter. Our reverse osmosis water from the sink tastes great.

Thanks for the responses everybody.

From what I gather, the Raleigh water isn't all that great. If the taste doesn't get any better soon, I will call the water department to complain. I don't know if that will do any good or not, but I definitely see a water filter in my future!
