Hi,
I am coming to visit and would like some recommendations on good restaurants in the W or NW Cary area. Looking at American or Italian cuisine. No chains if possible. Entries of about $13-15 or so for pasta and $16- 18 or so for chicken just to give an idea. I read old threads, but I don't see a lot of restaurants in Cary though.
Thanks.

Are there any restaurants in W or NW Cary? Are we talking west of 55? Perhaps north of High House?

I love Nikos Taverna, both for service and food. I could eat there every day. It's a Greek restaurant, but they're family-run and have a wide menu including pasta and chicken dishes in the price ranges you listed. They're in McCrimmon Corners Shopping Center off Davis Drive (in Morrisville but not far from NW Cary).

For Italian, my favorite is Vespa but it's in downtown Cary. Still, maybe not too far. Very intimate (and I think romantic) dining and large portions of authentic Italian food - perfetto!

Not much in the way of great Italian food close by. There is Daniel's on Rt 55 in Apex - a couple of minutes from Cary. It is owned by an Italian family from NY. Some people here just love, some hate it. Here's my take - I've eaten there 3 times. The first and 3rd times, it was very good but I ordered the same thing (Penne with white beans/sausage in garlic/white wine sauce). The second time I ordered chicken parmesan and it was lousy. I would definitely go again but I'll only order my original penne dish!!

I heard Vespa closed and the building is now a check cashing place...

No, the place is not a check-cashing place. It's a restaurant called Klara's, with a mostly Czech menu.

I really didn't like it there which shows everyone has different tastes. There was one in Chapel Hill as well. There is also another Italian place in downtown Cary - Bella Napoli which I tried but felt was not that great.

As far as other restaurants in the West Cary area with American cuisine - Stonewood Grill on Cary Pkway is very close and excellent. Fabulous steaks. Peak City Grill in Apex is also great - and only a couple of minutes away! Hope this helps.

We have had pizza and pasta a few times at Georgina's, in Morrisville, at Davis Drive and Morrisville Parkway.
I'm no Greg Cox, but we will go again.

Mike, thanks for this link! Never heard of it and will definitely try it! And I'll bite - who is Greg Cox?
