Does anyone know the status of the old Holiday Inn on Capital Blvd? It has been unoccupied for a very long time and is a major eyesore. I know it was run under another name for a while.

I thought I'd read somewhere years ago that someone was planning on renovating it and reopening as a hotel but that was years ago.

Seems kind of ridiculous for such a large eyesore to sit there forever just looking worse and worse with each passing year..

If you are talking about the tower, it would be a good idea for someone to renovate it and turn it into condo/apartments. Maybe low-cost housing?

Full of mold?
I think that was the story 10-12 years ago and sidetracked the owner completely.

Certainly has a history....

Am I remembering correctly that during one of our major big storms a few years ago, the hotel flooded? Or was that a different hotel?

I'm not certain, but it would have been specific to the site and building.
It is about 35' above the flood plain that swamps U-Haul now and then.

It's amazing that (what I would consider) a prime piece of real estate would remain vacant for 10+ years! Wasn't there a time where the convention center was open even though the hotel was in major disrepair, or am I imagining that?

More of a curiosity question....looking at google maps, it looks like a motel off to the left - were these all part of the same complex or was that a stand alone motel? Google image search is only bringing up the current Holiday Inn.

Ive been wondering the same thing. But it definitely adds to the grittiness of Capital.

Hopefully it will be torn down and replaced with a tinderbox for overpaid hipsters!

Seriously? Dang, y'all. Enough with the attacks on the guy's opinions. No wonder he's tired of transplants. NC Natives don't constantly bash others.
