So I was going to attend a websitemakers meeting in Raleigh tonight.

Google Maps' directions said 28 minutes around that time of day, so I allowed 40 minutes because those things are always in poorly lighted poorly signed locations, and I would have to stab around to find it. Little did I know that I would be sitting still on Glenwood for what, 20-25 minutes. And the Google directions were wrong. And the facility was dark and invisible.

All that other stuff is okay, that's life. But is Glenwood (around by the mall-440 area) always like that? Should I always figure that I'll be parked on the parkway for almost the whole time that Google said that the trip would take?

I found the place but I didn't go in. I would have been 40 minutes late and apart from looking foolish, nothing worthwhile would have been happening by then.

But ... is Glenwood always like that at ~6pm?

Glenwood is one of those roads that tends to be busy at rush hour. Add in Christmas shoppers and beware!

If you can stay to the far right, you can usually breeze through it!

I make it a point to avoid the area around Crabtree mall during this time of year!

Sure that area can be congested during rush hour, but I used to go through that area a lot around 5pm and the most it ever took me to get from the beltline exit to past Creedmoor Rd. was like 8-10 minutes and it was usually much less. I wonder if there was an accident or some kind of event blocking traffic? It can be congested, but it's actually a very small area to go through (like 3 lights), so 20-25 minutes would be very abnormal.

I try to avoid that area any time of year, but I've never sat in traffic for more than 10 minutes.

Default Is Glenwood Ave always like this?

There was a multi car accident just past the mall heading toward downtown between 5:30 and 6:00 tonight.

In December it will get pretty bad with Christmas shoppers, but tonight there was a bad accident that had 2 of the right hand lanes closed just before 440. There were at least 7 cars involved in what looked like a massive chain rear-ending. So it was backed up for the lane obstructions and the gaper delay, as some people were stopping completely in the open lanes to get a better look at what was going on. It was sort of an interesting accident, but typically, even during rush hour when a ton of cars are trying to get onto 440, you should have made it on time.

Crabtree is a nightmare on the weekends, during rush hour, and especially in nov/dec. Any combo of those, avoid like the plague.

Also, this week a section of Lead Mine north of Glenwood is closed. I'm guessing more people had to turn onto Creedmoor instead, so that may have added to the congestion near the mall.

So it was mostly an exception. Good. Thanks.

Gawkers, though. Geez. Can we just round them all up and send them to an island somewhere?
