I got pulled over and ticketed for 15 over in a 45 on 54 in Chapel Hill/Carrboro on my way home from work tonight. I had a speeding ticket back in August 2011 but I can't remember how much over it was written for. I am not sure what I should do at this point, it seems going to court and asking for a PJC or getting a layer to try and knock it to a non moving violation or at least something better would be my best bet. I am just not sure what can be fine due to the ticket I had in 2011, so any advice is appreciated.

My Dh just paid an attorney for this (it was minimal) and he went and took care of it. It was out here in Clayton though, so I know each city/county is different. Our "downtown" has 25 MPH and it turns to 35 and he was going 35 before he reached the 35 street sign! He also had one is 2011, but not in NC, although I'm sure still on his record. Lawyer got it down to a non-moving violation with 0 points. We still has to pay the ticket, but I think it will save us on insurance in the longrun.

Watch out around Chapel Hill. They love hanging out and handing out tickets. 54, 15/501, MLK/Airport Rd are 3 of there favorite speed traps. You will get alot of advice here but your best bet is to contact a lawyer from the many mailings you are going to get in the next 2 weeks. Here, you will get advise ranging from a lecture of your driving habits, to just pay the fine your guilty, get a lawyer and just go yourself and try to get it reduced.

Remember, opinions here are like *******s.... we all have one and most of them stink!! lol

Ok, I will go with a lawyer then, what do you guys think the odds of getting it down to improper equipment or anything where I won't have insurance points added is? That's really all I am worried about, the stupid insurance points.

You could try slowing down. Or, if you are worried about this, get a lawyer who can help you with this. It might not be as expensive as you think.

Well, I will definitely be slowing down in the future. Also definitely going to get a lawyer. Hope to avoid insurance points.

The lawyer will know whether you can get it reduced to improper equipment or not, depending on your jurisdiction. For instance, Wake County used to allow it, but the last time my wife or I got a ticket 3-4 years ago, they were not any more.

Pretty sure you can only get a PFJC once every 36 months per household also, so that's probably not available for you.
