I take care of my 88 year old mother and since we recently moved here, I haven't been able to find a doctor that accepts Medicare! This is nuts! I really need to find an internal medicine specialist for her. Any suggestions?? At this point, I'll drive anywhere (we live in Willow Spring)!

I know there is a guy in Cary, David Outlaw, that is supposed to be a geriatric specialist. My parents went to him when they lived here. THey liked him.

You can try the doctors affiliated with the hospitals. My mother-in-law is on Medicare and Medicaid, and was able to get service at both Wake Med and Duke Medicine (where she is going now, and which has offices throughout Wake County.

I asked my mom about her practicer that she has been going to for decades, Boylan Internal Medicine, and she says they accept Medicare patients, but you have to pay upfront, they file for you and Medicare reimburses the patient. It's a very large practice in North Raleigh.

Thanks for the replies. I never would have thought it would be so hard to find a doctor that accepts medicare here - especially since this is such a medical area! I did try to find a doctor through wake med but none were accepting "new" medicare patients. I'll try your suggestions. Thanks!
