The Courtyards at Cary is a new community of 15 homes to be built. They are all ranches and go in the low-mid $300K.

We're retiring from northern VA. We looked all over the area surrounding Holly Springs where our daughter & SIL moved last year. We discovered a wonderful villa with upstairs bonus room in Fuquay-Varina. My husband decided he had to have a walk-out basement so we paid for the premium wooded lot. We quickly decided during our search that we didn't want a 55+ community - too many restrictions. Good luck with your search. We had a specific budget ($350K) & were able to get almost everything we want within budget by moving a little farther out.

It all comes down to personal choice. We moved down here 6 years ago and bought a large (2500 sf) townhome in Cary. We decided we really wanted a one story home and decided to downsize. We moved to a new Del Webb >55 Community in Brier Creek and are really happy. We love our new home and are really enjoying our community. I would not be happy in Fuquay-Varina or other outlying communities. I like to be in the thick of things and do not feel that moving further out is worth it just to get more bang for your buck. Personal choice.

Not really. There are plenty of older brick ranch homes in Durham, some on golf course communities and many with good sized shady lots. If you don't care about the school system, your get more house for the money in Durham.
