North Raleigh. Very North. Like, almost in Wake Forest North.

If you are in the southern part of that triangle, you can take some local roads to Wade/40. It's the getting around Umstead Park.

As for west Raleigh, parts of that are even close if you aren't right by Harrison Ave itself. Have a friend who lives in Bridgeton Park and loves the neighborhood. Easy commute from there.
I agree that NW Raleigh is quite convenient to Harrison Ave.

I've lived here 25 years and not sure where people are coming from in N Raleigh to Cary? I live in N Raleigh and get to Harrison and Weston Pkwy in 20 minutes in a morning commute.

With that said, no one is immune to school assignment with the current set up. There are plenty of testimonials if you look around.

Best advice is to just be sure because chances are you're going to be there for a very long time. There are some great homes with good bones on .5 acres plus under $500k in North Raleigh right off I-540. Hope this helps.

I am envious. My son needed a PEP or IEP and couldn't get one. Couldn't get anyone to acknowledge the issues that we have dealt with for a decade, nor the recognition of what was going on with him at the time. Even worse, we found out a few weeks ago that even though he earned consistent high marks in math during his 6th grade year at RCMS, apparently he didn't master any of those sixth-grade basic math skills, which is why he is failing 7th grade math at his current school.

Hmmm. Did they tell you why he couldn't get one? That's unusual, given my experience. I'm sorry that happened to you and your son.

This is why I spent the entire last school year getting an IEP in place before my child started 6th grade - word was that it was almost impossible to get it once middle school begins.

For me a change in a key personnel position was what helped me the most.

***Important***

Note that some of the most sought after schools are going to be labeled as "capped" or "partially capped" on 12/11 when the BOE passes the new assignment plan. Capped schools will not be allowed to admit ANY new students, even those living within the base assignment area. Not sure of all the details, but please take a look at the wcpss assignment web site... 2013-2014 plan section and open the 132 page .pdf file which lists what schools will be capped and partially capped. The same website also has links to the maps for the planned base assignments for 2013-2014.

Just keep this in mind and plan accordingly.
