We ate at El Meson a lot also, but after being disappointed with the food a few times, we gave up on it. Shame, it was in a great location and had a nice family atmosphere - if the food was a little better, I think they would have survived. There are a couple of pretty good Mexican options in Fuquay so it becomes survival of the fittest. Maybe something better will replace it.

It does seem strange to me that with all the empty store fronts around, they are building a brand new strip of shops to accommodate the new Krispy Kreme...

We ate there only once years ago. We started calling it "Feci's Pizza"

I didn't know we had any Checkers places left around here. Durham had 2 years agao & they both shut down in late 90's after a hepatitis breakout was traced to them. I thought all their NC locations had shut down. Bad think, their places here had great burgers & fries. But the hep did them in.

Checkers is still alive and well, at least in Florida. I'm sure there were other forces at play that caused their closure here in NC.

I think the bar for burgers has really been raised in recent years, with places such such as Five Guys offering a decent fast food burger. Add to that the increased availablilty of really good gourmet and pub burgers at many local establishments...

I am personally happy to see one less fast food joint in Fuquay...

Does anyone know what is happening to the MT Fuji sushi restaurant next door to where El Meson closed?
I went by there 2 times during lunch hours and the place was closed but it was open for dinner hours?

Kind of like the Joe's Crab Shack in Durham. That place was always SLAMMED--cars parked all up and down 15-501--until a hepatitis outbreak. Never seen a restaurant clear out so fast. Shortly after, it was closed.

Anyway, I miss Checkers, too. I think the ones in Winston-Salem and Wilmington are closed, too. I LOVED their chili dogs and fried apple thingies (forgot the name).
