Hello all,

I'm moving to Durham in 1 week from a rural upper mid-western state (guesses??).

I am wondering if their are any neat small town within an hours drive of Durham?

Thanks,

There are quite a few small towns around Durham ... some even within the county of Durham.
How about a bit more on your definition of "neat"?
Artsy/craft scene? Traditional main street?
Maybe something like Hillsborough?

Town of Hillsborough, North Carolina | The Town of Hillsborough Government, NC

Welcome

Frank

Lightbulb Carrboro or Pittsboro?

Carrboro came first to my mind:

Carrboro, North Carolina - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Or Pittsboro

Pittsboro, North Carolina - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hillsborough

Pinehurst/Southern Pines

Apex (getting un-small fast)

Fuquay (will soon get un-small fast)

Sanford is kind of small

Wake Forest itself is small but it's surrounded by a lot of density

Yeah, FrankPC, I think "traditional main street" is what I was going for...some small town charm if you will. places to walk, parks, old restaurants/buildings, a few fun little stores... ...

Thanks all for these replies; we will definitely look into these.

And Minnesota...close but not quite...

I would suggest downtown Pittsboro: https://www.city-data.com/forum/ralei...tsboro-nc.html

And Downtown Apex: https://www.city-data.com/forum/ralei...town-apex.html

My guess: You're moving from North Dakota. Congratulations -- you're going to love it here.

Oh and I would suggest checking out Oxford. It's just a cute small place and very pleasant on the eyes. Much less busy than Carrboro, etc.

Pittsboro, (shame you won't see the original courthouse, added a lot to that area), Downown Wake Forest. Downtown Apex and even downtown Cary. Downtown Cary is kind built of just still a little neat area to walk around with a few older houses still in that area.
