Very informative thread. I have a similar background to VermillionPearlGirl (somewhere between creative and technical) and am wondering if Portland might be worth investigating too. I'll be really curious to hear how it goes for you.

Because Phoenix is not a good place for that sector at all!

Hey Golden Monkey,

The more I talk to people in the area, there does seem like there's a lot of work in that field, but for the most part it's a lot of small boutique agencies that don't have a lot of openings, and don't always post to job sites, and it can be kind of word of mouth. So that seems like an uphill battle. But looking at the websites for all these little companies, a lot of them are doing really exciting work. Still, it's hard to get a job at a good company that none of the 8 people that work there ever want to leave! So I'm just trying to just connect with as many people as possible and see how it goes. Then you just have to wait for the magical right opening it seems...

And y'know, I'm also going to like apply at Nike

Yeah, I had never thought about Portland until I saw an opening on Linkedin and applied, then had an interview. Unfortunately, I didn't live in the area, so I was out of the running. That experience did make me realize that Portland seems to be a bit of a tech/creative incubator of sorts, though. But if there are only small companies around, I would think that would be better than living in an area where there aren't any at all, like here.
