thanks. It's kind of unreal - I don't think I've ever seen/heard so many.

Call the non emergency police number if it gets close to your property. Portland as patrol cars and fines are steep. There is a statewide campaign against illegal fireworks. You can google illegal fireworks Portland, OR.

Thanks Yankeemama, I did call and the line was busy for like five minutes. I finally got through to someone - also heard an ambulance a second ago, don't know if it's related.

It's much better in my neighborhood this year than previous years when some idiot used to set off "bombs" the week before and the week after. I never could find him. This evening another moron started as soon as it got dark. I don't know who it is but if I ever found him I would call the cops the moment I spotted him.

This year for the first time in as long as I can remember, I declined to go to my friend's fourth of July barbeque because her new neighbors last year set off some really heavy duty fireworks some of which the debris landed in her backyard a piece landed on my shoulder still burning. The homes are just too close together for they type of incendiary devices he was playing with. She had the debris all over her yard. I was all set to go over and give him a piece of my mind but she stopped me.

So this year I didn't go. It's not that I wanted to be ungracious but those things scare the crap out of me, the noise hurts my ears and I am afraid they will burn something down, maybe me.

So tonight I am staying home holding the kitty's paw as she shakes and shivers and ducks under the bed with each loud explosion set off by the jerks in my neighborhood.

Wow. Sorry about your shoulder. I guess it really is the Wild West out here.

Make sure you compost correctly, but don't worry, you can set off a potentially fatal explosion in your neighbor's yard and no one will bother you at all.

Please read about the fire in 2012 that burned down a restaurant in NE Portland called, Aviary, I think. Not sure name but one million dollars in damage. I feel bad for my neighbor who is a vet. My dog is ok and kids are ok but I worry about the dry leaves and foliage from our heat wave. We were on vacation last year during this time but illegal fireworks used by a neighbor caused some bad feelings. So far... everything is ok. No drama. (crossing fingers)

I think that law enforcement would have responded to this situation if they'd been called. She could have pressed assault charges; it's not the community's fault that no one called the cops.
