I now this question is somewhat subjective and vague. I know that Portland is the biggest city and Oregon and I have heard really good things about it, but it is in no way a giant city (not saying that is bad by any means).

Would you say Portland has a metropolitan feel to it? Do you feel like you are living in a city, or just a big town? Is there many of the same varieties of things to do as cities that are larger? Spending time in other cities can probably make this question easier to answer.

Thanks for your help.

Yes and No. Depends on what you call "metropolitan feel"... yup, your question is rather vague.

We have trees downtown. The pace does not match New York. Does that help? Some people wear suits to work. Many do not.

Considering that over 2.25 million people reside in the metropolitan area, I'd guess it qualifies as a city. Is it New York or Chicago? No. But then, they aren't Portland.

There is just as great a variety of things to do, but with fewer options of each ... if you get my drift.

Go to Google maps and "walk" the streets of downtown. That will give you a feel of the city.

If you take "metropolitan" to mean people in the streets, then yes, I would say Portland feels metropolitan. There is definitely street life, in fact quite a bit of it for city this size. There are food carts that draw some people out, even in a bad weather. Many neighborhoods have walkable areas with shops and cafes.
If you are talking about the pace, I'd say it's quite relaxed. There is a huge difference between Portland and San Francisco, for example, in that regard. Even compared to Seattle, Portland is quite a bit slower. Some consider the combination of slower pace and street activity rather attractive.

That sounds like an excellent combination.
