The vast majority of comments on the article are totally against this idea because of how Murtha turned his back on the Marines and insulted them. Fine, name the ship after him. Just tow it out into open water and let the sailors and marines use it as dummy ship for target practice.
I'm disgusted. I'm ex-Navy. Murtha did not deserve to be "honored" with a ship named for him. The guy was a disgusting traitor.

It's about him calling the Haditha Marines murderers and liars to the press even before the investigation was complete and after the investigation and trial were complete, he never ONCE apologized to the Marines he insulted publicly before the press.

I wouldn't call him a traitor. A self serving scumbag for sure. Much like John Kerry he has no problem dissing those who serve when he thinks it will benefit him based on the political climate.
His do nothing airport named after him is an example of the pork spending this country can do without.

Jimmy Carter has a Sub named after him. The man cut the Military by almost 50% that included money for training and equipment up grades.
My ship commissioned during the Carter years was equiped with a Korean war vintage missile defence system. We were happy to see 1 out of 3 missiles leave the tubes on a launch.
Yep, before the investigation was even complete he was basicly telling the country via the press that those Marines were murderers and liars. The investigation and trial proved the Marines right and showed Murtha to be the backstabbing bold face liar he truly was.
And the JAG officers who charged those Marines with murder, what about them? Do they deserve the same treatment?
Just when you think the left can sink no lower they want to honor this pig who I see as nothing more than a traitor, undermining our military and further putting our soldiers in harms way. Unbelievable!
