I believe christians are the most deplorable hypocrites on
the face of the earth, the people from this town mentioned
in the OP strengthens that belief.

Do you think the Bible says that Christian tenets can change or be forgotten, to suit however the people feel like acting at the time?

"Falter"?! Do you mean you think they prayerfully asked what to do in this situation?!

Yes, they were tested, and how they reacted was not very Christian-like. I don't disagree. But, this girl is not without fault herself. She chose the court system for remedy, and she got it. But she's living in a dreamworld if she thought that everything would be A-OK after submitting that small town to international scrutiny. I maintain that she got what she asked for.

No, it has to do with scared people and small minds. Christianity is too big for them so they alter it to make it fit. Everyone does this.

They acted in spite, which is uniquely a human feature.

Yes, so you have been pleased to say over and over. Ive seen folks with the same attitude smiling in photographs and pointing up at the result of that attitude.

That's very harsh. She was 17. All she wanted was to go to her prom. What she got was a major dose of bullying from parents and teachers all because she is gay.

I don't disagree. But you must concur that such a description is not relegated only to Christians, heterosexuals, or the South.
