when Obama announced his candidacy, unemployment was at 4.5%
as it became evident that a politican with an anti business marxist idealogy was going to be the leader of the world markets tanked.
Surprise Surprise Socialism isn't working.
Obamanomics:
From 4.5% to 10.2% unemployment
Kind'a like it got up to 10.8 under Reagan? Is that what you are saying?
Yeah, it's worse than expected - and definitely ugly, but it doesn't really change anything. We know the unemployment rate will continue to rise as long as the layoffs continue. Fortunately the rate of layoffs is still continuing to drop and by spring it will likely end and hiring begin.
Texas which has continued to escape much of this downturn although it is now beginning to feel the pinch. This morning I'm working on having a new "For Rent" sign made up because a long-running tenant who is (was?) a home builder just moved out of the State. Throughout the real estate downturn which also has affected Texas, appraisals and property taxes have remained steady in the State. Liberals are definitely not alone in their tax and spend policies.
The problem with "giving" the people a check is that it probably would have done nothing to help the economy. Those checks would have likely simply have met the same fate Bush's rebate check stimulus did - they would have been used to pay down bills or simply stuffed in the bank and saved - neither of which would have done ANYTHING to stimulate the economy.
Ken
The democrats excuse for not giving americans stimulus. The savings rate is now 5% instead of 1% so we'd be better off giving all of the money to washington burrecrats.
What a joke.
Government is a terrible allocator of resources. Having the government as a middleman is what is killing the economy

Yeah, we wouldnt want people to pay down bills, or god forbid, stuff the money in bank.. Remind me again what the banks are doing with their money? SITTING ON IT..
The problem isnt that we needed a "stimulus" we needed stability..
Yesterday it was announced that Obama is extending the peoples benefits, which sounds nice but coming from asocialistic country it has proven that the longer people get benefits, the longer they wait to actively trying to find a job.
As an employer I even had people soliciting who just came because in order to keep their benefits they have try to get a job...what they were telling me during the interview was everything to not get the job, just to get a name on their paper stating have tried to get a job! Isn't it nice to stay in bed and get benefits....
I understand that people need money and not everybody is the same and some are really trying...but all these bailouts have so far not helped any one, other than giving the "Santa Claus money man" title to Obama!
the economy is his fault??? oh yes i forgot bush ran this country into the ground, starting 2 wars and giving huge tax breaks to the richest americans
average unemployment rate under bush 5.3%
average unemployment rate under under obama 9.1%
