I went to the hosp not long ago with my husband. They was about to let us leave after hours of being there without even asking his ss number or for his insurance. We had to ask them as being realeased if they needed this.

So even if he didnt have or give them his insurance they wouldnt have had his ss number to charge him

They werent busy either

The post had to do with bankruptcy as far as I understood it.

"the comment was made, many would have had to declare bankruptsy if they had the same thing happen, my comment was NOPE, our laws, right or wrong would have covered the surgery if someone without insurance had gone to the emergancy room."

Maybe the poster was recommending going to the emergency room and trying to get non-emergency surgery? Or waiting until death was imminent in order to avoid buying health insurance?

It seems like a pro-health-ins-for-all POV, which was confusing.

I dunno, see about 29 Kennedy threads after he died. You'll read the thoughts of some of the most rotten people on the net.

I find this hard to believe, as that's the FIRST thing they ask you.

I didnt say they didnt ask if he had insurance

They said they would be back to get the card to copy. They never came back next thing you know the nurse was there to release us and they never got the name or a copy of his insurance

We stopped at the desk so they could get a copy

Your husband (or one of you) didnt go to the desk and sit down and get checked in? Im just trying to get a handle on how the check-in system works there. Where did the clerk go? Why?

Just trying to get a handle on that hospital's procedure. Every time Ive ever checked in at a hospital or a doctor's office, the patients in the waiting room sign in and are called up to the desk one after another -- the desk where the computer is is central. If the clerk ever leaves the desk at all she's taking my insurance card with her to make a copy. They dont leave for any other purpose.

Did the clerk come to your husband to take his information?
