False.

Some presidents have held it, while others have not. For example Thomas Jefferson made a point about presidents not having such authority to impose such things on citizens.

Bush was sued over the prayer day, and when Obama was sworn it, the law-suit was amended to cover Obama, so he decided to not have the prayer day.

For Christians every day is preayer day. It is nonesense that a president has to tell people when to pray.

"Fasting and prayer are religious exercises; the enjoining them an act of discipline. Every religious society has a right to determine for itself the time for these exercises, and the objects proper for them, according to their own particular tenets; and right can never be safer than in their hands, where the Constitution has deposited it. ...civil powers alone have been given to the President of the United States and no authority to direct the religious exercises of his constituents. - Thomas Jefferson

Never heard of this day but it should be abolished! Where is the separation of church and state? And don't people that pray do it anyways? Do they need a designated day?
