This is America. Everyone is entitled to speak their mind. With that being said...What a crock of ^%$$%^!!!! You can't really be that simplistic...can you? It is an insult to all the hard working, reasoning people who happen to be both right, left and center.

Facts are facts Floyd. Left wingers will say Fox News or Glenn Beck is bad yet they will admit they don't even watch it. THAT is the results of a brain filled with propaganda.

Decent citizens fed up with their government peacefully protesting are hated and called every name in the book by the colective-thought-left-wingers. Why? Because of their lack of common sense and because they are told to NOT because they have went to any and talked to any people involved.

Let me explain who Glen Beck is:

First, his employer:
He works for Fox News. Fox News is a partisan news station. To claim anything else would negate ones credibility in the conversation.

Therefore, by virtue of who allows him his speaking platform, Glen Beck has a Partisan agenda when it comes to anything that he says on Fox News.

This is immediately obvious when you compare his opinions, on Fox News, during both the GWB presidency and the Obama presidency. In summary, according to his record of speech on television, GWB could do little to no wrong, outside of relatively trivial matters, and Obama is causing the end of our liberty as we know it.

However, to the rest of the country who chooses to analyze what they hear, inclusive of neoconservatives, liberals, and libertarians, that aren't diehard types that believe-anything-that-you-hear-on-Fox-news, this creates an image problem for Mr. Beck.

Thankfully, image problems, caused by radical corporatist news agendas, can be solved in books.

In his book, he can throw some jabs at GWB, and correct his corporatist partisan neo-conservative lapdog image into his preferred image as Americas favorite populist libertarian. (He can, and is, actively trying to correct that on TV, now that Bush is out of office, but I'll cover that below).

The upside to the book being released during the Obama administration (he could have never released it during the Bush administration) is that the insanely small percentage of Americans that actually read his books can come to his defense as the conservative pundit that is misunderstood, and therefore an undercurrent is created that he is a fair and balanced, albeit principled, pundit.

This undercurrent of opinion is soon maintained by the masses who don't read his books, because Uncle Bob (read the book) told them so, and they continue to be pacified in their belief that they are watching Americas last libertarian greatest American Hero on good ol' Fox News tonight. However, they never really become aware of what he said about the Bush policies, and it wouldn't matter anyway because Bush had their support when he was in office.

It just so happens that the Fox News Masses have permanent amnesia when it comes to his on-the-news silence and lack of criticism about all of the
continued and egregious anti-libertarian actions and policies of GWB, that the rest of the thinking world was up in arms about at the time.

Meanwhile, he can continue to reap his overwhelming influence on Amercias undiscerning masses on Fox News, now claiming the patriotic "brand" of libertarianism (now that it can't do any damage to the Bush administration), but in fact exhibiting overwhelming historical behavior that he is a sell-out opportunistic talking puppet for the neoconservatives. If they ever get into power again, expect him to be silent on all of their anti-libertarian actions, and not to release any books.

Dude. Facts are facts, if one can truly substantiate them. But there is so much disinformation out there that proving things is difficult, if not impossible. Where are you getting your supposed facts from and why are you so sure they are accurate? Seems to me that to label and generalize as you have here, is an example of exactly what you are presumably railing against. It does not show intelligence. It shows close minded, simplistic thinking. As in hearing someone say, "That's how "those people" are" when speaking of some definitive group." It's ridiculous and wouldn't win a first grade debate.

Good story arc starting with a defining statement in the beginning and qualification of it in several ways along the way. Sure. It helps that I agree with your sentiments. But still. Good post in all.

Besides. There are no Libertarians on mainstream TV are there? Don't they go to that place where contrarians go? You know...Misfit Island with the one legged tin soldier and the defective jack-in-the-box? Or the honest politician or those who claim the Federal Reserve is a purely inflationary institution designed to protect old / private money. Or just the people who have real ideas for change that will never fly because that just ain't how things are done?

Lastly, I don't believe GB has "overwhelming influence on America" as you stated. This is just his 15 minutes and the audience is still relatively small. But then again, a certain hockey mom from the north came out of nowhere and is still hanging around so...

Thanks for the compliment.

My statements about my estimation of Mr Becks influence are drawn from national election numbers, that is the rough number of those people that might have a propensity to believe in what he says, followed my personal sample of interactions with every neocon that I know.

Everyone from the postman to the accountant is spouting his rhetoric (my whole family is neocon, with a couple of exceptions). What frustrates me is that their current issues are about 10 years too late for me (I was wondering where all of these 'republicans' in my family were when I was worried about these very issues due to Bush's actions), and therefore come off as extremely partisan rather than principled.

Also, I live in a blue state. I can only imagine what the overwhelming sentiment of the average neocon is in red states. If its anything like what I experience here, then I would say that Mr Beck has an exceptionally wide influence.

I think, now that GWB is out of office and Mr Beck can freely usurp the libertarian patriotic emotional brand without doing damage to a current president of his own party, that his rhetoric is much more effective and therefore his influence has risen since Obama has taken office.

He may have some staying power, ala Mr Limbaugh, as he seems to be somewhat charismatic to those that resonate with his opinions.

Perhaps a strategy, to get Mr Beck to agree with Obamas policies and spending, would be to have Obama change all of his justifications for action to "fighting terrorism", "not letting the terrorists win", "to spread democracy", "preserve freedom"or some such 8th grade hyperbole that worked so well for the last administration when they were overspending and doing everything else that was in direct opposition to true old republican/libertarian ethics.

Too bad Operation Iraqi Freedom and Desert Storm have been used. Those were damned sexy. 8th grade hyperbole? Darn you are good. After the last election, you'd have thought that a real American must be a NASCAR watching, Bud drinking, God fearing salt of the earth type. Just simple folk. Not that any of those things are bad. Anyone else is / was an elitist America hater. Really?
The Red State mentality, however real or conceptual is a concern just as the exaggerated elitist blue state mind set is. But psssst...don't tell anyone...all is not what it seems. The moral majority don't seem particularly moral or in the majority. I'm just saying...
