. . . Why is the only year going around for 2005? . . .
Here's 1981 through 2005, twenty-five years.

Yeah, . . . and why do you think it's pretty much bankrupt? You think maybe because it's supporting all those red states? After all, standing alone, California has the sixth largest economy among countries of the world, last I heard.
California is digging it's own grave. The state is in denial about they've done to themselves, with $500 BILLION in unfunded liabilities and policies that are driving businesses out of state. Do you honestly think that the imbalance in federal dollars going to relatively low-population states like North Dakota and Alaska are what's bankrupting California? Total Federal farm subsidies per year are about $15B, so it's not farm subsidies causing this spending imbalance. What about welfare? CA ranks 2nd behind Rhode Island in welfare recipients per capita (and a distant first it total caseloads at over a million; nearly the entire population of skapegoat states like ND and AK combined). "Federal leech" South Dakota ranks #44 with 6,000 cases.
This has been beaten to death -- the majority of Federal taxes are paid by the wealthy. The wealthy tend to live in, <drumroll>, blue states like California and Connecticut. CA alone is home to nearly 1 in 5 of America's richest people; throw in NY and IL and that accounts for 40% of this country's wealthiest people.
2005 Figures (A brief review of annual data from 1981 thru 2005 showed state rankings to be fairly consistent from year-to-year)

Revenue sharing is the worst cancer in our government. It should be totally abolished immediately.
Revenue sharing is the single biggest power grab by the federal government in our country's history and has allowed it to leech power from the states and do an end run around the constitution.
Ironic considering MT & TX are thinking they could do better if they secede. They did better or about broke even, and Ca, NY, NJ have in a sense been paying their way all along.
Maybe NJ, NV, MN, CT & NH should drive to montana and cruise to alaska to stage tea party protests accusing them of deadbeat socialist welfare state???
Anyone know how to interpret that DC $$? Is that the capital/ white house budget? <weg>
considering that with Montanas low population, and no fderal intrusion at all and they could use their natural resources how they want instead of having the feds try and stifle it for them, I think Montana would do very well without the federal goverment.
You conveniently leave out the Democratic swamp of DC that puts all the red states to shame.
$5.55 comapred to the $2.03 of the worst red state. But hey don't let facts get in the way.
You conveniently ignore the fact that the District Columbia is not a state it's a district that recieves it's operating revenue directly from the federal government. It has no ablity to levy a sales tax, real estate tax or, excise tax, income tax like a state can.
