Well, here in the Augusta area last Halloween a child out trick or treating was shot to death by an ex-felon with an assault rifle who mistaked his knock at the door for a drug dealer. He shot at the door from inside the house and the bullets went through the door and stuck the kid. Seems like as good a reason as any to outlaw them!

YET. Wait a little longer.

Assault weapons do sound much worse and after all, lefties have to start somewhere. First Assault weapons, then higher caliber rifles, then high caliber handguns, and so on. Always remember that once THEY started they will never stop again. They will take the weapons from honest people and never look back. The real problem for me is that if you refuse to give yours up they will come and try to take them by force at which time some will shoot the forces that come after their guns.

Civil war. Sure as all billy hell because most gun owners aren't going to let THEM take their guns from knowing what happened in Germany and the Soviet Union when people gave up their weapons.

"To prohibit a citizen from wearing or carrying a war arm . . . is an unwarranted restriction upon the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of constitutional privilege."

Seems the USA is nothing but an arms bazaar for the Mexican Drug cartels, who buy AK-47's from shady dealers (like the one in the NYTimes article) or private owners and ship them over the border to Mexico, where thousands of people have been murdered in the past two years.
Assuming it's true, why should American citizens be punished for it? Apparently the government and the anti-gun establishment think that we have no rights to our guns or to anything else, that government is supreme. Of course, in Kenya this is the norm.

Maybe because of people like Martin Bryant who killed 35 people with a semi-automatic rifle in the Port Arthur massacre. The same thing could just as easily happened in this country.

The cartels are not going to mess around with purchasing weapons one-at-a-time from individuals. They have much better international sources. They also obtain many U.S. made weapons from the Mexican military.

We inspect cars and trucks coming north from Mexico. Let them start inspecting stuff going south.

In the 60's a crazy guy used a hunting rifle and sawed off the barrel of a shotgun and killed and wounded over 22 people. It was against the law to shorten the barrel of the shotgun but he did it anyway..................
