WASHINGTON — A national safety group is advocating a total ban on cell phone use while driving, saying the practice is clearly dangerous and leads to fatalities.
States should ban drivers from using hand-held and hands-free cell phones, and businesses should prohibit employees from using cell phones while driving on the job, the congressionally chartered National Safety Council says, taking those positions for the first time.

I'm ALL for it. It's SO stupid to use cell phones while driving, even the "hands-free" ones. If anyone had common sense, they would know not to do it, but NO - the government has to tell them what is right. If drivers weren't such idiots, we wouldn't need these laws.
How stupid can you get than to talk on the phone while driving?? It's just as dumb as drunk driving.

Then, you are going to have ban ALL TALKING while driving - including to passengers. You are going to have to ban listening to the radio - and perhaps singing along with the songs.
Ban drinking coffee in the morning - or woman putting on makeup while driving.

If it could be proven that a driver distraction caused an accident, penalties should skyrocket as they do for DUI. But no nanny state prohibiting someone from actually taking the foolish risk.
Sure just give all ourSovereignty to the governments, Let them dictate to us how to live our lives. I don't like being free I need someone how to tell me to live my daily life. O yes mister president may I go to the bathroom please, Can I use one piece of tolit paper or two.
"I don't know folks Wake Up" Wake Up Now..
We already have laws that cover this stuff. Reckless driving is easily enforced.
Are they going to pass a law prohibiting smoking while driving? Changing the radio station? Putting on makeup? Drinking coffee or eating fast food? Hows about even 2 people riding in the car together having a conversation? It's easy to get distracted, ya know. Or are we going to require sunglasses?? The sun can get in your eyes and cause accidents....
Heck...a local state senator even proposed a bill arguing that smoking in a car when children are present should be illegal. I don't smoke and I agree parents that to smoke around kids is at best extremely poor judgment based on what we know of tobacco today...but at what point does it stop? I think at some point the gov't is going to try to tell people they can't smoke in their own homes.
I don't like people talking on cell phones while driving.
Talking on cell phones seems to mentally draw people in more than if they were just talking to a passenger. I once saw a cell phone driver drive out in front of someone who had the right away almost causing an accident and the cell phone driver just kept on driving as if nothing had happened.
Interesting that some of those who want to fry people for a .08 DUI turn around and find it some sort of presumption upon individual rights to criminalize driving while under the influence of a cellphone. The actual degree of impairment between the two is comparable...
