Russia keeps everything they've already stolen, and Ukraine can't join a military alliance or stockpile sufficient weapons to fight off Russia when they try it again.

Sounds like a hell of a deal.

For the sake of saving countless Ukrainian lives and infrastructure?

It is a hell of a deal.

Russia is not the one getting drone attacked daily and littered with landmines, Ukraine is. Even Finland had to do it once, or risk getting obliterated:
Quote:
By early February 1940, the Finnish Army was exhausted and their defensive lines eventually overrun. Outside help never materialized.

Finland was forced to sign the Treaty of Moscow on 12 March 1940, which ceded 11 per cent of its territory to the Soviet Union

That's what war is, you fight someone until they sign a peace treaty or you keep fighting until you have their entire country. Most people choose to sign the peace treaty.

Obama defended doing little when Russia took Crimea, because historically it was Russian and ethnically too.

Now it looks like eastern Ukraine is gone for the cost of so much damage.

As Kissinger said, it's fatal to be a friend of the US.

Ukraine claims talk of Ukrainian war fatigue, internal political conflict, and draft problems are all Russian misinformation, but could become real soon catastrophically if they don't get more cash, new weapons, and ammo now.

Ukraine did not prepare decent defensive positions now that they are on the defensive which is helping Russia to advance faster and easier.

Russia demanded:

1. Ukraine can join the EU, but no military alliances like NATO.

2. Ukraine would never allow foreign military onto its soil.

3. Ukraine would allow Russian language permanent legal status.

4. Ukraine would be permanently limited in its military on things like missiles with a certain range. "85,000 troops, 342 tanks and 519 artillery pieces. Ukrainian negotiators wanted 250,000 troops, 800 tanks and 1,900 artillery pieces, according to the document. Russia wanted to have the range of Ukrainian missiles capped at 40 kilometers (about 25 miles)."

5. Crimea would permanently be Russian.

6. Apparently Ukraine could keep everything else, but killing to end. Russia no further demands on land other than Crimea that they already had.

This deal was likely worth taking to save hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian lives, infrastructure, and Ukraine likely will now have to let go of Eastern Ukraine.

Bloomberg is reporting military intelligence thinks the entire Ukrainian front line will collapse by summer.

All things considered that seemed like a very good deal for Ukraine.

Now years into the battle, Ukraine will lose a lot more, in addition to the loss of life that has already taken place. Ukrainians must remain aware that the goblins on the sidelines cheering Ukraine on seem to be more interested in Russian losses than Ukrainian interests. Personally, I don't see any likely outcome where Ukraine will make out well. I'd be very curious what Russia would offer at the moment to end the hostilities. Whatever it is now, while Russia continues to suffer consequences along the way, I'd imagine they would have more and more demands to make up for what they have lost. The bystander goblins should keep this in mind as they cheer for Ukraine, they condemn many of their young people to death unnecessarily.

I think that at this point, the Russians will not negotiate other than accepting an unconditional surrender from Ukraine. The endgame is in sight where Russia will simply dictate what they want after the Ukrainian military collapses.

Good stuff.

I don't know if this guy or the other guy reported this:

Ukraine lost up 70 special ops people when they tried to infiltrate Crimea. Ukraine has done this successfully twice in the past, but not this time. They ran straight into an ambush.
