Kind of makes sense. Someone with immune issues like HIV passed along a variant that spread around the country.

Did a collision of COVID-19 and HIV forge the Omicron variant?

The Omicron variant, now present in at least 23 countries around the world, was probably incubated in the body of a person with an immune system battered by HIV or another immune-compromising condition that can cause a prolonged coronavirus infection, according to the South African scientist who detected the fast-spreading genetic mutant. Tulio De Oliveira said the emergence of Omicron in a patient unable to clear the virus quickly was “the most plausible” origin story for the world's newest variant of concern.

In June, his team chronicled the emergence of more than 30 genetic changes in SARS-CoV-2 specimens taken from a single South African woman with advanced uncontrolled HIV. The mutations they saw — including several that could erode vaccine protection and boost disease transmission — appeared over a period of six months.

Now De Oliveira worries that a similar scenario might have given rise to Omicron.

There is no way to tell. Rank speculation. But here is some more: it has an animal (non-human) origin. The mutations are not consistent with what has been seen so far making it a decent possibility that the virus mutated in a non-human host and then made the jump.

I want to say Omicron has 33 mutations on the Spike protein, 15 inside in the RBD. It has only 3 in the Nucleocapsid protein (N) and 1 on the Envelope Protein (E).

Why so many mutations on Spike? Maybe vaccines are selecting for it

More mutations on spike would make it more easily spread?

Wow...maybe a total coincidence but....

Pfizer's covid pill is given with an HIV drug......

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/11/05/pfiz...89percent.html

Pfizer said its Covid-19 pill, used with an HIV drug, cut the risk of hospitalization or death by 89% in high-risk adults who've been exposed to the virus.

Only on the furin cleavage site. The rest are just changes to its shape, so it can avoid the antibodies made by the vaccines.

Interesting that Fauci has done heavy research in HIV/AIDS for decades and has just said that Covid could lead to a vaccine against HIV.

I dunno. But that person with Omicron was allowed to leave and "self-quarantine".
