That we know of. Apparently the process to verify Omicron is time consuming. 1200 Americans died yesteday of Covid. Over 7,000 around the world. How many if any were tested for Omicron who knows. Only 44 died in South Africa. Were they all tested for it? Who knows.
I cannot believe we are two years into this pandemic and still, we could not stop this variant from entering the US and we knew about this variant before it came here. Our political leaders and health experts need to do a better job in preventing these variants from entering the US.

Has everyone forgotten that ? Symptoms don't show up instantaneously.
This is not a new hypothesis. I seem to remember a UK study last year exploring whether the immune-compromised that had difficulty shaking off the Covid virus were creating a haven where it could mutate a bunch and, yeah, first link I found referencing that-

I can't believe we're two years since the virus was first discovered and some people still think zero covid is achievable.
Our politicians and public health establishment needs focus on treatment, not prevention. The virus is endemic and zero covid is unachievable. Every single known variant of this virus eventually made its way here. "Preventing" variants from landing on our shores is a waste of time and money.

The thing that I don’t get is that so far, those that have been known to have contracted Omicron are showing minor symptoms. This leads me to believe that while it’s more contagious, it is a less severe strain. And that’s usually how viruses evolve, hence why the cold and flu never goes away but we just live with it. If Omicron continues to give more and more people minor symptoms, then that’s a good thing. That means this virus is becoming a virus that’s more like the common cold and flu and we can now learn to live with it. So why all the hysteria on the news??

I am all for international travel. But that is the problem. Someone comes back from South Africa in Norway and infects 50 at a party. And the party was before Omicron was known to be spreading.
