What's too high to live in the best place on earth?

I have decided we pay too much local taxes plus insurance to live in Houston. Other places are a lot less expensive.

Houstonians can trash their homes with building in the flood plain, polluting the air and water for a high paying job. When trouble comes, demand the Federal government and insurance companies, rate payers, bail them out. It works.

Abolish FEMA.
My relative, for a comparable home was paying 10k a year in property taxes to my 4k a year. Were they getting better services, schools etc?

No, actually they were getting worse and it really made them mad.

They live in Illinois, have to wonder how much of your tax money goes to corruption both current and past payoffs for votes like their gold plated cadillac pension plan (which several of my relatives draw off of.) for state workers, teachers union etc.

Nothing like a state where you can be a known mobster, sent to jail for stealing from the tollways and upon release you go to the city and get a job where you don't actually work but instead act as the bribe "bag man" for politicians handing out city contracts so that they don't get caught if the feds come knockin'.

I guess I should have said ex-President Trump instead of orange man (like the OP did) but what I said is true for myself. The attention he got from both sides was annoying and I don't miss it.

Wow Americans feel their tax obligations are too high now, that's something we have never heard before..

All I know is my taxes went up during the last administration and if with the current administrations proposals I won't be affected

I guess that's why so many view the former President so poorly...

just wait until they implement an all digital currency (credits not currency) and tie it to political objectives and make that currency expire within a certain time frame. use it or lose it. central planners dream of controlling the population and stealing their assets.

The current tax rates were put in place by the former president and his followers. So blame the orange man.

I guess people are not taking into account the three "stimulus" checks that have been paid out in the past year or so. Those in effect canceled out almost half of the federal tax withheld from my retirement pension in the past year. I feel like I had a federal tax holiday because of the stimulus checks.
