In the name of "equity" there is a proposal to restructure math K-12 so advanced math kids cannot accelerate way ahead of their peers. It also proposes teaching social justice in math class and rejecting the concept of people having natural gifts of intelligence (which is more science denying from the left).

The proposal mentions disparities between whites and people of color with math, but ignores that Asians outperform whites in math.

We must all be dumbed down to match the left's low standards for certain minorities in the name of equity and diversity.

The road of woke leads to idiocracy.

Does a mediocre student need to study calculus? Usually not. All that will happen is that the kids with math talent will be bored in class; idiots will still fail because they can't compete. Yes it's an ill-considered approach that will create a new generation of burger flippers.

I don't understand why the parents aren't tackling this head on.

Do they WANT their kids to be stupid?

I am sorry to say that this kind of idiocy has been in the news for months in other parts of the U.S., too. I am only surprised that there has not been some kind of organized protest.

Just one more way to separate the haves (those who can afford to pay for private education) from the have-nots.

And IF this is to make it easier for blacks to compete because some liberals think that they are not generally as capable of whites of learning higher math, then I think it is very obvious who the true racists are.

A nation of neanderthals is much easier for the elite to control.

These evil progressive elite are taking a page directly from the Catholic church of the Dark Ages. Keeping a population illiterate is the easiest way to retain control over those illiterate people. If they can't read, write, think critically, excel in anything, what you have is a population of malleable slaves.

Any parent who values his or her children would certainly not have those children in the state school system because our state school system is basically a livestock processing plant. They are killing our children's brains.

Maybe "Reason.com" needs to learn to read and reason? From the Calif Dept of Education proposal:

"In addition, there are four advanced courses: Precalculus, Statistics and Probability, Calculus, and Advanced Placement Probability and Statistics. Local school districts determine which courses to offer."

Where I live in Calif the public schools offer different approaches, some are fundamental, some are college prep, special ed. and so on.

How ridiculous and short sighted are these fools? What is wrong with teaching up to kids? Students need to be continually challenged to grow but the schools would rather stomp on them?

Of course it could also be the that the teachers have been dumbed down and there are not enough of them to teach these advanced classes? How does the ridiculous new basic math equate into advanced math?

Of course some classes need to be cut so the kids can be preached to about critical racial theory and diversity plus gender studies. There are only so many hours in the day.

Do not worry though because Biden is poised to provide 2 years of free college to everyone so the same kids that are not learning or don't care to learn can continue their reluctatance and apathy to "earn" a degree..

Ridiculous on your part.

They propose to reduce the advanced courses and student flow into advanced courses so you pretend that classes like precalculus is an advanced class.

They also make a science denying statement on natural intelligence and you ignore it.

You are fluent in 1984 Newspeak.

Some will. Most don't want to be labeled racists that block equity. Others are too busy watching Netflix.
