Hundreds of gun owners in Florida have been ordered to give up their guns under a new law that took effect after the deadly Parkland shooting in February, according to a report published Monday.
"Around 30,000 rounds of ammunition" were also taken, he said.
Nobody is in favor of having guns in the hands of the mentally ill, least of all the NRA or GOP.
The devil is always in the details. If someone is denied a gun because he was suicidal 30 years ago over a bad breakup...nix on that. If he's diagnosed schizophrenic or on SSRIs, then by all means take his guns.
Not the entire law.
Only the part about 18-20 year olds being barred from purchasing.
There's a reason the NRA jumped on that. Had any of the attorneys involved in suing Hawaii and NY/MA been involved the whole firearm provisions of SB7026 would probably have been reversed by now.
NRA jumped on it for a reason. Grandstanding if you will, beating other attorneys to the punch bowl... See the NRA needs gun laws for relevancy. Hence nothing done by the NRA when California and NY MA CT NJ passes ridiculous laws.
There are better attorneys out there.
I say this as a Life Member of the NRA. I joined to vote out the country club Fudds who will be willing to compromise. Have been a member of GOA since 07. 2 Fudds gone from the board.
The confiscation orders part of SB7026 were unnecessary, Police have been able to Baker Act at their discretion for quite a while.
