What comes first to me depends on the issue at hand. I can't really make a blanket statement that it would always be "Colorado before the U.S.!" or "Colorado before Arapahoe County!" It'd depend on a number of factors.
Robert E. Lee made that decision almost 150 years ago.....wonder what the course of the American Civil War would've been had he made a different choice.
Because its hard to immigrate to those countries. If I was given an opportunity to move for work, I would. But due to the EU law of looking for a EU citizen to fill a job first, it's unlikely unless you're highly specialized.
Again, I said if I had a choice when I was born. 28 years later, it's not much of an option.
So sloth is your basic reason why you are still living in the United States?
It seems to me that if you wanted in emigrate to any of those other countries, you could. It would take effort, but I know a couple of folks who emigrated. It isn't all that hard if the desire is deep enough.
Are you a citizen of your County/Parish first, before your community?
Are you a citizen of your State, before you are a citizen of your county?
Are you a citizen of the USA, before you are a citizen of your state?
Or is it just the opposite and you are a citizen of your community, first and foremost?
We could learn a lot from the differing opinions, with this gem.
I doubt we'd learn much. A lot of it probably has to do with whether you're in a state with a strong self-image.
The Pledge is an oddball. Written by a socialist, but conservatives are the ones up in arms about wanting it said every day in school. Never mind the implications of pledging yourself to a gov't on personal liberty.
Agreed. I've always felt the pledge of allegiance in school was a little weird. Excluding the "under God" part that needs to be removed too.

True and true. It's Statist indoctrination at its most basic.
I always get into arguments with so-called "patriots" when I tell them that forcing kids to pledge allegiance to a State is about as anti-liberty as you can get. Then I throw out that it was written by a socialist, and it shuts them up.
You know, I just might start a thread about this...
Federal always comes first to me. I'm an American!
Between 1836-1845 you would been a Texan. And you would've been free.
